Travis turned 2 last week, and for his birthday I made him a Toddler Bag.
He is at the point where he is too big for a full diaper bag,
but still needs to have a diaper, wipes, change of clothes and snacks handy.
Oh, does this boy ever need snacks!
It is a messenger bag that is sized just right for a toddler and the flap allows him to easily access the contents. Once he is done with diapers and all that he can use this as an explorer bag to carry around all his treasures!
The bag is made out of brown Duck Cloth, an owl fabric from Riley Blake Fabrics and a scrap of blue fabric from the remnant bin that just happened to match. I layed out 4 fabrics from my stash and let Travis choose. He loves owls just like his Mama and chose this one:)
Sweet little owl pocket for those miscellaneous little things.
I made the interior pocket in the contrasting blue to help it stand out.
Perfect size for a couple diapers, wipes, change of clothes, snack cup and a sippy!
Another view of it packed for the day.
Travis' Toddler Bag!
I used this tutorial for The Basic Messenger Bag at Mmm Crafts which is AMAZINGLY easy to follow, and adjusted the pattern pieces to make the bag the size that I wanted.
My finished bag dimensions are approximately 8 1/2" X 8 1/2" X 4"
I can't find the paper with my measurements on it right now,
but if you really want to know I can figure it out for you.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. With my son, I didn't even really bother with a nappy bag, just chuck everything into a wet bag. This is a lot nicer, might have to go make him one. I might even have the same fabric in blue. Thanks for sharing.

So cute! I was ready to ditch the diaper bag, too... and then we had another baby. The few minutes of not lugging around everything we own was sure nice, though ;)
