Eggs

Ouch.
Look at how huge that egg is!
Pretty sure it's a double yolk.

Yep, those eggs are green.

We have Ameraucana's and they are nicknamed the "Easter Egg Chicken"
because they lay different colored eggs: green, blue, pinkish brown, etc.

Each hen has her own color. Notice the variations in the colors?

6 of our new babies are also Ameraucana's and I am hoping we get a new color:)

I love having chickens!

Say hello to the babies!

Yep, it's that time of year again!
Baby Chicks!

We got 12 new babies and right now they are living in my dining room in a plastic bin.
We have them all set up with "chick starter" feed, water and a heat lamp.

I could sit and play with them all day, they are so soft and cute!

Eggs!

Our chickens have finally started laying eggs! Jon went out to refill the chicken feeder and I headed outside a few minutes later to see Jon and Brooklyn walking up to the house with 5 eggs in hand. It took me a minute to realize that the eggs were from our very own chickens....at first I was like, "Um, why are Jon and Brooklyn walking around with eggs? That's so strange!"
and then it hit me and I got soooo EGG-cited!!!
My little egg retriever:)

New Ducks...

About a week ago we had a neighbor show up at our door asking if we wanted a couple more ducks for our pond. Her friend had two ducks that needed a bigger swimming area than the tub she filled up for them each day and she decided to find them a new home. They got here the day before yesterday and their names are Daisy and Quackers. I guess I should name the first four now:)
Any suggestions?

Daisy and Quackers-the newest members of the farm;)

We were very happy to see that our ducks got along with the new ducks and now they are a pack of six, swimming around and avoiding Jersey together.

The new ducks lay eggs, and they decided to lay them on the island, so Jon and Brooklyn took the boat across the pond to retrieve them.

I am told that they are great for baking....Mmmmmm!

Goodbye Indiana

Indiana was our 18 month old male Nubian goat. He was given to us by a friend when we moved to our farm and was our first farm animal....the beginning of our farm life.

He became a wizard of escape, finding the tiniest of weak spots in the fence and forcing his way through into our yard or out onto the street. Several times we have had our doorbell ring to hear "Is that your goat out in the street?"

Usually he would wait until Jon was gone...I think he had the house bugged because he always knew when Jon would be gone for several hours, and that would leave the pregnant lady, the kid and that wussy pit bull home alone to try to get him back in.

Yesterday he got out again and before Jon had him back in I was posting an add on craigslist. Within minutes my phone was ringing off the hook. The first guy who called was at our house within 30 minutes of the post. He has 5 females that he wants to breed and was looking for a male...he asked if we thought Indie could "take care of his girls" and Jon and I laughed and told him how Indiana was always trying to "make babies" with Snickers, our other male goat.

So Indiana is now living in horny goat heaven with his very own harem.

Goodbye Indie!!! Enjoy!

Loving our country life!!!

Brooklyn and Jersey love to go to our pond and play with the ducks. These are not wild ducks, but ducklings that we have raised and just recently released on our pond. It's so fun to watch Brooklyn as she chases the ducks,
trying to catch or pet them.

When she actually catches one, the look on her face makes my heart all squishy. Ahhhh! I love her so much!
Don't get freaked out by the look on my dog's face. She loves the ducks...she just gets very protective of her "people". When we are not touching the ducks she is a lot less interested in them:)
She loves to swim with them.....
and will follow them all over the yard.
I just LOVE our country life!
The most important thing she’d learned over the years was that there was no way to be a perfect mother and a million ways to be a good one."
