Brooklyn came home from school one day and handed me this "pattern"...
...and this head.
It was in a paper bag.
A head in a bag.
It was a little creepy to say the least.
(The kids made the heads at school and after seeing them I have to say that this one is a little less disturbing than most.)
There was also a letter asking me to make this head into a puppet.
Had this stuff come home to me last year, you would have found me in the fetal position, crying and rocking back and forth in the corner.
Yep. I would have been terrified!
Reason #237 why I am glad that I learned to sew.
Being the procrastinator that I am,
I waited until the night before it was due to get started.
I stayed up until about 2:30 AM, sewing, cursing, seam ripping,
and sewing some more...It was a LONG night!
I changed up the pattern and ended up with something that I think turned out pretty cute.
This picture makes it look a little wonky,
but it was just my stellar late night photography skills.
Yeah, I thought so.
I did a gathered skirt with an apron...
...and a flat felled seam on the skirt.
Here she is with her head glued on.
I tried using a hot glue gun at first, but the glue kept cooling before I could get the fabric slipped over the neck, so I ended up using my trusty E6000 glue and it worked great!
Okay, so her hair is a little sad looking,
but it was 2 AM at this point and I was high from the E6000 fumes.
Hmmm...maybe I will make the poor dear a bonnet. ;)
Brooklyn was so happy with her and wanted to have a little photo shoot with her Gretel puppet before they went off to school together.
Brooklyn and Gretel.
Brooklyn is a 2nd grader in a 2nd/3rd combo class,
so this year she gets to be a part of this 3rd grade project.
Next year when she is in 3rd grade and does this,
I will be much more prepared and my puppet will be way sicker(in the good way).
And maybe, just maybe, I will start on it before the last minute next year
I doubt it;)
Why do in advance, what I can stay up really late to do the night before?
Have you ever made a puppet?
Any tips to help me make next years puppet ridiculously amazing?

The head is still pretty creepy but the puppet part turned out great!
'Head in a bag'......I am still cracking up over that one! Nice work!
What's in the baag? what's in the baaag? haha! I know the real quote is box but it wouldn't be as funny. And speaking of funny...hilarious post!!! And gretel turned out great and Brooklyn is so beautiful! love those freckles!
What a cutie (not talking about the puppet) ;) The puppet turned out great- you are a much nicer mom than I am.
Haha i agree, the head is a little creepy. body turned out great though lol
Thanks for linking up to Your Whims Wednesday!
Totally creepy, but you did a nice job with the body. I can't believe all the care you put into the details of the skirt/apron. Really great, Amy.
I saw this link up on BCD and from the photo I had to check it out. Glad I did. Very funny story! No one can ever prepare you for all the aspects of motherhood. lol And coming from another mom who also procrastinates, the dress looks fantastic!
creeeeeeeeeeepy head in a bag made me laugh but you did a great job with what you were working with, came out perfect! :)
